Albany - Four Directions, Polk Street, Albany, CA. Square earth maze, 14 by 20 feet. Small garden, "circular" labyrinth. The barriers supported with a small rock wall. Path covered with flagstone. Designed by Alex Champion (#2).

Concord - Four directions maze, Concord, CA. Privately commissioned. Earth maze, 18 x 24 feet. A variation of maze # 2, with a small rock wall (16 inches high) lining a crushed rock pathway. A small garden maze. Designed by Alex Champion (#12).

Concord - Meander, cross, circle, Concord, CA. Privately commissioned. 30 by 40 feet. Based on inner three rings of Cretan labyrinth, with small circular entrance. Designed by Alex Champion (#4).

Dearborn, Michigan, USA - turf maze, as part of a Maize Maze, built by Adrian Fisher Maze Design, 1996.

Greensboro Maze (private) Greensboro, Vermont, USA - circular 7-ring turf labyrinth; 24ft diameter; built by Sig Lonegren, 1986.

Hillsborough - Three-ring Chartres, Carolands Mansion, Hillsborough, CA. Done as advertisement for 1991 Decorators' Show House; landscaping by A New Leaf, Richmond, CA. Circular earth maze, 45 foot diameter. Based on labyrinth found in the 800-year-old Chartres cathedral in France. Designed by Alex Champion (#10).

Houston - Magic Square Maze, Houston, Texas. Privately commissioned - a memorial for a woman very active in a local church. Earth maze, about 38 by 38 feet; based on the 3 x 3 magic square. A garden maze with a one-rock-high rock wall, and pathway rock. Designed by Alex Champion (#14).

Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pennsylvania, USA; 7-Ring "Robin Hood's Race" turf maze, 60 x 60 ft, designed and built by Adrian Fisher Maze Design, 1993.

Lincoln - Cretan Labyrinth, Lincoln, Nebraska. Commissioned by the Prairie Peace Park, which is located 7 miles west on Lincoln just off I-80 at the Crete exit. An earth maze about 80 feet in diameter, whose use in the park is for personal spiritual pilgrimages. Designed by Alex Champion (#16).

Navarro - Cretan Labyrinth, Gschwend road, near Navarro, CA. Earth maze, about 80 feet in diameter. A left handed version to balance the right handed version made 8 years ago. Designed by Alex Champion (#18).

Navarro - Double-spiral serpent, Gschwend Road, near Navarro, CA. Earth maze, 28 by 34 feet. Double spiral pattern, shaped as a snake with entrance at the mouth. Designed by Alex Champion (#3).

Navarro - Four leaf clover maze, Gschwend Road near Navarro, CA. Earth maze, about 36 feet square. Four interconnected loops, oriented to the four directions. Designed by Alex Champion (#8).

Navarro - Small Meander, Half Moon Bay, CA. Privately commissioned. 18 by 24 feet. Small garden maze with low rock wall. Designed by Alex Champion (#7).

Navarro - The Cretan Labyrinth, Gschwend Road, near Navarro, CA. Circular earth maze, 56 by 62 feet, right handed version. Oldest known labyrinth design (over 3000 years) is Hopi Indian symbol for Mother Earth. Mounds covered with local grass, wildflowers and several hundred daffodils. Designed by Alex Champion (#1).

Navarro - Viking-age-horse-trappings maze, Gschwend Road near Navarro, CA. Privately commissioned. 72 by 72 feet, with an attached 18 by 18 foot entrance. Based on a symbol (the earth turning) found on a horse ceremonial blanket of the Viking period. First large scale earthwork. Designed by Alex Champion (#9).

Norton Museum of Art - Norton Museum of Art, South Olive Street, West Palm Beach, Florida, USA; Egg Turf Maze and Serpent Mound, designed by Adrian Fisher Maze Design, 1997, for Maze Exhibition 20th January 1997 to 9th March 1997.

 

Oakland - Hillside labyrinth, Oakland, CA. Privately commissioned. A 130 foot path meandering down through a garden from house to meditation site. Two to three foot high rock walls. Designed by Alex Champion (#5).

Oakland - Lake Merritt maze, Lakeside Park, Oakland, CA. Commissioned by the City of Oakland as public art; landscape architect consultant, John Thomas. Circular earth maze, 52 foot diameter. Based on labyrinth found in the Chartres cathedral in France. Mounds covered with grass and daffodils, with crushed rock path. First public labyrinth. Designed by Alex Champion (#11).

Orcas Island - Women's maze, near East Sound, Orcas Island, WA. Privately commissioned. 24 by 25 feet. Garden maze with rock wall made with rock collected at site. The core of the design came in a dream. Designed by Alex Champion (#6).

Palo Alto - Palo Alto Maze, Palo Alto, CA. Privately commissioned. Earth maze, 34 x 20 ft with 13 x 16 ft entrance. L-shaped, with two meanders, earth mound form covered with low grasses, path with decomposed granite. Designed by Alex Champion (#13).

Richmond - Starlight maze, Richmond, CA. A temporary project sponsored by the 2AES organization of San Francisco. Earth maze, 50 feet in diameter. A 7 pointed star inside a circle, with neon lights in the path (John Law, Oakland), and a seven-sided pool in the center with a cylindrical fire fountain (Larry Harvey, San Francisco). Designed by Alex Champion (#15).

Scottsville - Cretan Labyrinth, Scottsville, Kentucky. Privately commissioned. Earth maze, 84 feet wide, right hand version, with an open cross. Path width (2.72 feet, the megalithic yard, a unit of measure used in the construction of stone circles in England) adjusted so that 22 dio (distance in and out, that is from the entrance to the center and then back out to the entrance) would equal 7 miles. Designed by Alex Champion (#17)
